Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Boafo One collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website, mobile experience, and verification services. It applies to customers searching for businesses, business owners managing listings, and visitors browsing public profiles.

We follow widely accepted privacy principles, including the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) of Ghana, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable. We only collect what we need to run a trustworthy business directory.

  • Customer support: respond to enquiries, corrections, and disputes.

Business verification and security

When a business owner claims a listing, we may request evidence such as official registration, an authorised contact number, or proof of address. Boafo One reviewers check the information against the existing listing and public sources. We log decisions and important changes in an audit trail so disputes can be resolved fairly.

Sensitive changes (address, GPS, phone, WhatsApp, website, ownership) are reviewed before publication. We may temporarily freeze sensitive edits or suspend a verification badge while an investigation is ongoing. Read more on our Trust and Security Centre.

Location data

Listings can include a street address, region, and GPS coordinates for each branch. We use this information to power directions, map results, and nearby searches. Location data on public listings is visible to anyone, by design, so customers can find and reach the business.

Cookies and analytics

We use a small set of essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We use privacy friendly analytics tools, which may include Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, to understand how the platform is used and to improve it. These tools may set their own cookies and process limited usage data on our behalf.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may break sign in and listing management.

How information is shared

  • Public business profiles: business name, description, services, contact details, location, opening hours, photos, reviews, and verification status are public, so customers can find and trust businesses.
  • Verification reviews: evidence submitted for ownership claims is shared with the Boafo One reviewers who handle your case. It is not published on the public profile.
  • Service providers: we share limited data with hosting, email, analytics, and security vendors who help us run the platform under written agreements.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose information when required by Ghanaian law, a valid legal request, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the platform.

We do not sell personal information.

Data retention

  • Account data is kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards for security and legal purposes.
  • Business listing data may remain visible after an owner leaves the platform if the business is still operating publicly, unless removal is requested and verified.
  • Verification evidence is retained for as long as needed to defend the integrity of the verification decision.
  • Security logs and audit trails are retained to support investigations and dispute resolution.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format

Boafo One is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

International transfers

Some of our service providers are located outside Ghana. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect it.
